Lunch-time burritos at Taqueria Juquilita in Ottumwa.

Taqueria Juquilita is one of my favorite places in Ottumwa for lunch. In the past I’ve enjoyed the chile relleno plate and the chorizo burrito. On this recent visit I opted for the latter, washed down with a cool bottle of Jarritos Toronja (grapefruit) soda.

Sadly the chips and salsa served up were sub-par. The store-bought tortilla strips being a pile of shards while the salsa lacked any heat and tasted eerily of chicken stock.

Fortunately our burritos – two chicken, a lengua, and a chorizo – were excellent along with the green and red condiment salsas. Slices of radish along with the grilled onion and jalapeño were a nice garnish.
