Recent eats: Biscotti d' Amore, Dewar's Taffy Chews, cherry-lime phosphate.

At AMICI Espresso I came across a basket of biscotti offered by Biscotti d' Amore of Ankeny. Curious I tried the Rainbow Rocks! Hoping for something like spumoni, instead I find M&M's within. Still its a decent snack.

Each year friends of mine in Ottumwa receive a gift box of Dewar's Taffy Chews of Bakersfield, California. Though Dewar's makes several flavors, I've only been privy to the peanut butter filled taffy chews. If you like the orange and black wrapper variety popular during Halloween, you'll love this more refined version.

On a recent visit to the Durham Museum in Omaha I was pleased to find an old-style soda fountain and candy shop inside the Great Hall. A cherry-lime phosphate made with cherry flavoring, lime flavored simple syrup and fountain dispensed soda water hit the spot after a morning spent touring the Museum's exhibits. The Soda Fountain also serves up ice cream for sodas, sundaes, shakes and malts, beverages, hot dogs and sandwiches.
