A Maple Bacon Me Crazy, below left, from Hurts Donut Co. in West Des Moines for three bucks is no slouch in size but, IMHO, is excruciatingly sweet. Enough so as to overwhelm all that bacon and even the maple flavoring in the frosting to some extent.

A vegan Chili Lime doughnut, above right, from Horizon Line Coffee is exceptional! The lime flavor in the frosting is bright and pleasant, suffering not from sugar overkill. This tidy, little raised donut has enough chew to elevate it beyond most of its pillowy counterparts. At $3.50 I will be enjoying them sparingly, though for a vegan-firendly baked good I've been told the price is reasonable. Other doughnuts featured this day were Ginger Chai and Grapefruit Tarragon.
