Breakfast in the DSM: Papa Kern's, FarmHouse, Original Pancake House, Fong's Pizza

UPDATE: Papa Kerns has since moved to 304 E. 30th St., the former location of both Home Plate Diner and Waveland Cafe East.

Denver omelet, hash browns, sausage gravy, and pancakes at Papa Kerns Cafe, left. Insomnia, work, and whiskey compelled me to excess. Topping off with a slice of cherry pie, right.

Left: The namesake breakfast at Local Yocals FarmHouse with breakfast potatoes, and choices of egg, meat, and toast. A few dashes of hot sauce from their selection on hand and we're golden. Right: Bacon pancakes at The Iowa Original Pancake House in Ankeny. No lack of bacon here! Dining-mate thought the bacon made the pancakes dry, I not so much. I'd order these with a couple of fried eggs atop.

Left: The Farmers' Market Breakfast Special at Fong's Pizza: a slice with a Bloody or mimosa for six bucks! I enjoyed a Wabi Sabi Farm feature slice with heirloom and SunGold tomatoes, green onion, and cheddar on top of Fong's spicy sauce. Perfect with a Bloody Mary! Right: A slice of Bonsai Bacon with egg and cheddar on cream sauce.
