Crispy rellenos at Los Cactus Taqueria in Ottumwa

Chile rellenos with nice, crispy exteriors are harder to come by than what you may expect. So many are prepared with an egg batter that cooks up more like a crepe than a crust, then doused in so much sauce the soggy texture leaves much to be desired.

Los Cactus Taqueria is an exception. Crispy crust, topped with melted queso and a little salsa roja. No slouch on the queso filling either.

My lunch-mates were not so impressed with their sopes. Tough to cut with a fork, you'd be better off with tacos.
