Burger pilgrimage to Steve’s Place in Burlington

Steve’s Place at 852 Washington St., located on the western fringe of downtown Burlington, is a stone’s throw away from the railroad tracks that bisect the town.

Many a time I’ve passed by on the California Zephyr, looking out at the familiar black and white sign peeking up from behind the viaduct, wishing I could jump off for a quick burger and brew.

It’s not a fancy burger served up here. It’s simple, but so satisfying. Cooked well and served on a toasted white hamburger bun with your choice of toppings. On this occasion I asked for it all: a slice of American cheese melted on top, a thick slice of onion, dill pickle chips, ketchup and mustard. The ketchup was a little too generous on this occasion, the slice of onion slid against the bun with ease. But it did make for a fun, messy nosh.

That is one awesome looking burger. You can rarely find a place that gives you a decent slice of onion.
