After an evening of imbibery at Mob Bar and Don’t Tell Mama [see blog post] I mosey back to my lodgings at the Gold Spike Hotel & Casino and settle in at the recently remodeled and revitalized Golden Grill for some much needed eats. I order up a duo of hot dogs: a Downtown Dog with crumbled bacon, grilled onion and pepper, ketchup, mustard and mayo; and a Chicago Dog with yellow mustard, onion, pickle relish, chopped tomato, pickle, celery salt and sport peppers.
My server noted an error on the order and instead of a Chicago Dog, I had a wondrously sloppy Crandall's Chili Cheese Dog with chopped onion in its place. Though I was more than willing to accept what I had received, the grill cook fixed me up a Chicago Dog on the house.
The dogs were simple and filling but the stand-out was the mistakenly-prepared chili dog. Impossible to eat by hand I forked up every bit of the overflowing mess. Sated I retire for the night, bypassing breakfast altogether the next morning.
