A delightful lunch at La Buvette in Omaha

Seated outside at La Buvette on a warm Thursday in the Old Market in Omaha I perused the menu on the chalkboard and settled for gazpacho and a buffalo mozzarella plate with an appropriate dry white wine as suggested by my server.

The gazpacho was flavorful and refreshing. A sprinkle of chopped tomato, cucumber and red onion with a drizzle of good olive oil finished the soup beautifully. The plate was a simple presentation of buffalo mozzarella sprinkled with fine threads of basil, slices of heirloom tomato and even finer slices of cucumber, a few pitted kalamata olives and a finishing drizzle of olive oil. The complimentary plate of crusty artisan bread with butter was a joy to nosh. The wine, whose name escapes me, was outstanding: dry, refreshing, with notes of pear.

This would have been a fine lunch alone, but a selection on the dessert menu compelled me to give it a try. How often does one get a chance to sample a swiss chard, raisin & pine nut tart? Not too sweet, and served with a dollop of sour cream and yet another drizzle of that delightful extra virgin olive oil. Paired with a stunningly good cup of coffee it made for a great finish to this relaxing meal.
