Having scored some Heinz Ketchup Blended with Real Jalapeño a couple months before it hit the store shelves I was intent on sampling it with ideal foods, namely a thick steakburger with fries from Mr. Filet.
A spoonful offers a little zip that builds on the tongue to a very subtle warmth. The flavor stands up well on a French fry. On a thick burger (and a damn fine one – Mr. Filet makes their steakburger from ground trimmings) not so much. As the old A.1. commercials of yore suggest, "Leave the ketchup for the fries."
Todd Rector T Rex (@firehouse25 on Twitter) clued me in on an even zestier condiment, Melinda's All Natural Habanero Ketchup. A superior sauce, Melinda's is much thicker, richer, and less sweet as Heinz. The consistent burn of habanero was just the icing on the cake. I've been enjoying this deep red kroovy on scrambled eggs.
