On a lunchtime visit to Big City Burgers and Greens I found the meat on the standard Big City burger somewhat on the dry side. I had to dip it in a side of ketchup to get it down. Otherwise the burger came with lots of pickle, and the bun was quite airy.
A more pleasurable experience was had with the Black & Bleu burger, garnished with fried onions, crisp bacon, and a Maytag blue cheese sauce. Quality toppings made this a burger worth revisiting.
On an impromptu visit to the noisy bustle that is Gusto
Pizza on Ingersoll, I settled up to the bar for a bowl of pork
shoulder chili and Frank's Sandwich,
made with fried eggplant slices. The chili was reasonably good,
not terribly spicy, but full flavored and meaty. Gusto’s Frank’s
Special – pizza topped with fried eggplant – is first
rate. As a sandwich, not so much. Eggplant dominated the sandwich
to an extent that I’ve no memory of the other toppings. It
practically begged for a slather of marinara sauce. I'll stick
with the pizza.
