Saying goodbye to Mr. Filet Steakhouse.

Mr. Filet Steakhouse, a downtown Des Moines fixture for over 40 years, closed its doors for good on August 14. With the parking ramp in which Mr. Filet resides to be demolished, and affordable space being wholly absent, owner George Hatzigiannakis decided to retire.

Awesome McGreek breakfast sandwiches with sausage, cheese, and scrambled egg embedded on request with jalapeΓ±o and hash browns, on grilled wheat English muffins.

My all-time favorite breakfast: a Greek omelet, filled with gyro meat, sautΓ©ed green pepper and onion, and feta, with a side of creamy tzatziki sauce, made with sour cream and cucumber.

Left, breakfast and lunch menus at Mr. Filet Steakhouse. Right, gone but not forgotten: coffee at Capes KafΓ© in a Mr. Filet mug.
