Jersey Mike's Subs is a submarine sandwich chain based out of New Jersey. Though around for nearly sixty years, Jersey Mike's opened its first location in Iowa – at 12851 University Ave. in Clive – only just a year ago. So far I've been fairly impressed with the quality of their sandwiches Here's what I've enjoyed so far.
A Veggie sub with Swiss and provolone cheeses, and green bell pepper, on a Regular sized (7”) wheat submarine roll. Cold subs can be requested Mike's Way with onion, lettuce, tomato, herbs and spices, and The Juice - a mixture of red wine vinegar and oil, as this build demonstrates. No lack of cheeses on this sandwich.
A Giant (14") Meatball and Cheese, left, with melted provolone, a rich marinara sauce, and tender meatballs, on a white submarine roll is surprisingly good. Its a hefty sandwich best tackled on an empty stomach. As a lighter alternative, Jersey Mike's subs can be ordered either on a Mini (5") kaiser roll, in a wrap, or as a salad. Center and right, a Veggie with added salami and jalapΓ©no in a tomato wrap.
The Original Italian, in a spinach wrap. Provolone, ham, prosciuttini, cappacuolo, salami, and pepperoni. Done Mike’s Way, plus pickles and a cherry pepper relish. Its a delicious build!
