Odds and ends in northwest Las Vegas

First meal in Las Vegas from Roberto's Taco Shop at Rancho & Craig, left, a hefty breakfast burrito with egg, cheese, potato, and breakfast sausage. Made even better with liberal amounts of salsa verde. ¡Bueno! Right, While visiting friends I was introduced to Café Du Monde coffee and chicory. A bold dark roast, the chicory softens the bitter edge. Best served au lait their website suggests. I bought a can as a present to take to Reno.

Home cooking in Las Vegas, left, scrambled eggs with green bell pepper and zucchini, wheat toast, and soy bacon. Right, Someone left a Chick tract in the waiting area at Centennial Hills Hospital Medical Center. It’s my civic duty to remove it.

A marvelous lunch special can be had at Saffron Flavors of India on N. Tenaya. For $9.99 you select a curry dish with brown or white rice, plain or garlic naan, and drink. I enjoyed a medium spiced vindaloo, a sweet, tangy, flavorful sauce of yellow onion, garlic, and dry red chili paste, with chunks of potato and optional cubes of paneer, over brown rice. For a 5 out of 10 for heat I found it quite pleasant with a residual tingle in the mouth, and only a few sniffles. I want to try a 7 next!
