On the road to Reno

Railfanning in Modesto with BNSF 7039 (GE ES44C4), 1055 (GE C44-9W), 5362 (C44-9W), and 7167 (ES44C4) passing by the Amtrak station. In the opposite direction, Amtrak San Joaquins #703 bound for Sacramento, with CalTrans 2007 (EMD F59PHI) leading the consist.

Left, My train needs a Claritin. Center, The King’s Burrito at Sacramento Cafe & Brew with choice of bacon, sausage or ham, scrambled egg, a tricolor of bell pepper, onion, potato, sour cream, mushrooms and spinach. It’s a lot of food for ten bucks. Right, Anticipation... looking to be an optimal ride over Donner Summit, moments before we leave the Amtrak station in Sacramento.

Eastbound on Interstate 80 coming down from Donner Summit to Truckee.

Left, Vintage atmosphere, plush booths, and an iconic fire pit at the Fireside Lounge inside the Peppermill Reno. Right, An herbaceous, vegetal Martini made with Frey Ranch Estate Distillery gin. This robust spirit is flavored with estate-grown grains, juniper and sagebrush, plus imported botanicals.

Fancy cocktails at the Fireside Lounge.
