Visits to Exile Brewing

Left, BubbleTrance Brut IPA–an Exile Brewing/Kyle On Keys collaboration–is light and effervescent with a dry finish, but still distinctly hoppy in taste and aroma. Drop some orange in this and you’ve got a beermosa! 7.2% ABV, 40 IBU. Blackberry Bohemian, center, is a puckery sour ale from house-cultured lactobacillus, dosed with blackberries. Robustly fruity! 5.6% ABV, 5 IBU. Right, Haze of Siren’s Song hazy IPA goes down easy peasy. Light-bodied head, citrus aroma and flavor finishes dry with enough hops to add appeal. 6.7% ABV, Zero IBU.

Left, Doncha Know, a double IPA with lots of hoppy delights. That's all I cared to note at the time as muscle spasms interrupted my drinking. FML! 8.1% ABV, 60 IBU. Center, I walked off the cramps with a hike up to Carl's Place where I enjoyed a pitcher of Exile’s Zoltan for a surprisingly cheap price. Sobremesa Stout, right, is a luscious, spiced stout resplendent with cacao nibs, Ceylon cinnamon, pasilla chile, and Brazilian coffee. Enticingly spiced aroma, tingly finish. This is a keeper through the blustery months to come. 7.8% ABV, 25 IBU.

Left, Two classics. Kaleidoscope American-style IPA, center, an inspiring manipulation of Simcoe and Mosaic hops through the various stages of brewing. Light head, mango pops up on the finish. 6.9% ABV, 55 IBU. Right, Lord Falcon, a New England-style hazy IPA is earthy with tropical and citrus fruit aromas and flavors. 6.5% ABV, 35 IBU.

“I gotta dirty sock in my car if you wanna strain Bud through it and save three bucks,” said by a loud-mouthed bar patron after I ordered a pitcher of Zoltan, left, at Carl's Place. Enjoy a glass of Exile’s Elephant Mob, center, a deeply roasted Imperial Peanut Butter Porter featuring lactose, peanut flour, and cacao nibs. A peanut butter cup that you can drink! 8.0% ABV, 25 IBU. Bob Krush, right, an American IPA showcases Simcoe hops by adding 2 lbs./BBL between kettle, whirlpool, and dry hop (along with secondary Mosaic hops). The end result is clear and refreshing; it would make for a fine summer brew. 6.5% ABV, 57 IBU.
